Difference between a Solicitor and a Barrister

Ques: What is the difference between a Solicitor and a Barrister?

Ans:    Solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority
(SRA) and provide clients with expert legal advice and assistance.
They have direct contact with the clients and provide legal
expertise in their specialized areas such as criminal, civil and
           commercial law.

Barristers are specialist legal advisers and courtroom advocates
regulated by the Bar Council of UK. They are independent and
objective, and trained to advise clients on the strengths as well as
the weaknesses of his/her case. They have specialist knowledge
and experience. Currently, barristers’ professional rules prevent
them from receiving instructions from lay clients therefore the
usual route to instructing a barrister is through a solicitor.
